– Shou3 – Pickpocket

Tonight’s movie: 小武Xiao3 Wu3. You know those mainland Chinese movies you always see, the ones where it seems nobody has a job and they just hang around dirty warehouses and dusty vacant lots all day, smoking, and listening to announcements blaring from some PA system, and nothing really happens? It was one of those.

I HAVE DISCOVERED 布袋戲 COSPLAY!

The 2004 Puppet Cosplay Festival! Plenty of pictures here.

And the 2005 festival appears to be coming in November. Maybe a good time to visit Taiwan?

Surprisingly, the universe has not imploded, nor has the fabric of web-space-time folded in upon itself to produce a word of the day singularity. In fact this most colossal of all failures went unnoticed for almost a year!

– Jing4 – Clean, Complete, Net

乾淨 – Gan1 Jing4 – Clean

Susan told me a distressing saying today:

不乾不淨, 吃了沒病 – Bu4 Gan1 Bu4 Jing4, Chi1 Le5 Mei2 Bing4

Translated literally it means “Not clean, eaten no problem.” It’s kind of the Chinese equivalent of “God made dirt, and dirt don’t hurt.”

Update: Jenny reflects that Susan had never heard of “God made dirt, and dirt don’t hurt”. And I’d never heard of the Chinese saying. She then deemed this situation “剛剛好 – Gang1 Gang1 Hao3 – Just Just Right — Perfect!”

At least that’s what the video that came with it said.

Pig.com

Pig.com is for sale! I sent them an email several years ago asking if I could buy it, got not reply, but noticed that “this domain is not for sale” was posted there a while later. I guess they get lots of inquiries.

I wonder if you have to pay extra for “pig.gif“?

Gotcha!, you’re thinking, I just KNOW he’s posted Orange before! Let me just pull up Google and…

Nice try, but you’re thinking of when I posted , another word for Orange.

It looks like 橘子 refers to things in the Mandarin Orange family, and you use 柳橙 – Liu3 Cheng2 to mean “true” oranges. I didn’t even know there was a difference! You can read more on Oranges, and on Mandarin Oranges. In fact, if you have the time, you can read about all the Fruits of Warm Climates.
