Susan told me a distressing saying today:

Translated literally it means “Not clean, eaten no problem.” It’s kind of the Chinese equivalent of “God made dirt, and dirt don’t hurt.”

Update: Jenny reflects that Susan had never heard of “God made dirt, and dirt don’t hurt”. And I’d never heard of the Chinese saying. She then deemed this situation “剛剛好 – Gang1 Gang1 Hao3 – Just Just Right — Perfect!”

Nice try, but you’re thinking of when I posted 橘, another word for Orange.

It looks like 橘子 refers to things in the Mandarin Orange family, and you use 柳橙 – Liu3 Cheng2 to mean “true” oranges. I didn’t even know there was a difference! You can read more on Oranges, and on Mandarin Oranges. In fact, if you have the time, you can read about all the Fruits of Warm Climates.
