選 – Xuan3 – Choose, Select, Elect
In Chinese the word for menu is different from the word for menu!
菜單 – Cai4 Dan1 – Food List — Menu
選單 – Xuan3 Dan1 – Choose List — Menu
So this explains the phenomenon of chinese restuarants with the regular take-out-style menu of food, and the ulta-super-secret chinese food menu for all the cool people. “Can I have…THE menu? [wink wink, nudge nudge]“
Good ol’ Workbench 1.2!
I like how you present these types of Chinese wordings. Although sometimes it all seems too confusing (even for the native speakers!?), it’s interesting that the language has these kinds of distinctions.
