I called Apple, and they agree that my iBook 災難 is probably a result of the infamous 邏輯板 problem. So they’re shipping me a box, which I will put the iBook into, then the shipper will come back and pick up the box and send it back to Apple. From there it should take about 14 days to fix, and then they’ll ship it back to me. All three shippingses are overnight so the iBook should be back in time for the trip! And since this is some sort of known design flaw, it’s all free.

I made a backup of all my data using this highly sophisticated method:

step 1) plug in iPod
step 2) drag home directory to iPod
step 3) there is no step 3

There’s NEVER a step 3 with Apple stuff.

And I even just got email confirming my repair, and the shipment of the return box! The funny thing is, I never gave the guy I talked to today my email address. I guess Apple just knows everything.

…despite Apple requiring no step three, you better have a back-up plan for the trip in the event that the( bROKEN) iBook gets lost in the Apple shuffle, or doesn’t Apple have a shuffle either?

scotty

but there would not even be step 1 if the logic board was designed properly…

fortunately my 18 months old iBook is still working flawlessly :)

steve

No, I have no backup plan! The only critical thing the computer is needed for on the trip is to store pictures to keep our compact flash cards free. An alternative solution for that problem is to delete non-keeper pictures off the flash card using the camera each day, or to just buy more flash cards.

Yes, it would be nice for there not even to be a step 1. Pretty tricky of them to have turned a negative around into a positive in my little brain like that.

Never a Step 3
Theres NEVER a step 3 with Apple stuff (via MovableBlog Asides)….
