– Bi4 – Arm

I liked the second 獨臂刀 – Du2 Bi4 Dao1 – One Arm Sword — One Armed Swordsman way better than the first. I also like the way the two titles work in Chinese better than in English: we get “One Armed Swordsman” and “Return of the One Armed Swordsman”. Boring. They get 獨臂刀 – Du2 Bi4 Dao1 – One Arm Sword and 獨臂刀王 – Du2 Bi4 Dao1 Wang2 – One Arm Sword King!

But I’m still trying to figure out how a kung fu book can be burned so that only the instructions for the left hand remain.

  2. I think it goes without saying that lefties are generally more evil, thus cooler than righties. Left-hand instruction survives by sheer will.

  4. Did you notice Ti Lung and David Chiang in their bit parts as 2 of a billion guys who get horribly slaughtered in “Return…”? I’ve always liked the original, I think it holds up pretty well for a movie nearly 40 years old. “Return…” is pure anarchy. No real point or story, just one endless bloodbath. Which is pretty cool, but I think I still prefer the original. “New One-Armed Swordsman” has a lot more in common with the original, but sports some awesome 70’s music and is heavy on the male bonding.

  6. Jenny spotted Ti Lung, but we missed David Chiang.
