Nah - its real. The only thing I cant get down is the warp sound, everything else is possible (still want a tab though -the main riff with the bass line I cant figure out either heh)

The guitar tab link isnt what he plays in the video though, its just normal notes (not chords) of the mario theme, almost like a midi that you can find anywhere on the net. I would like the guitar tab that he plays because it has a ska riff and other chords and sound effects (like the warp) that I cant figure out.

Whoever posted this video here leeched it directly off my server, and caused me to well exceed my bandwidth allocation for the month.

Ok I have received many mails about the tabs. tonight…..April 16 at about 3:30. I will start sending the tabs out to all the people that have emailed me. If more email me then I will send more out. I WILL send them all out tonight. Computer trouble yesterday prevented me from sending the tabs out yesterday.. I hope all of you enjoy it.

The sound has no effects, just harmonics and sweep, it sounds great though! I say: don\’t cain his playing until you can play it better, it\’s not exactly easy…

I think that your lack of in-experience is what makes you sound like crap. I have played my version many times, and it sounds just like him when I play.

I would appreciate the tabs, too. I can\’t figure out the darn mushroom or pipe sounds. I was only smart enough to get the coin sound (so freaking easy). Anyway, thanks Chris in advance. BTW, wouldn\’t it be easier to take the time to make an Angelfire page or something with the tabs so that you don\’t have to constantly e-mail them? Just a thought.

SWEET: He\’s good but the BEST you\’ve heard in your life? Go listen to some Zakk Wylde, Toni Iommi, Van Halen or Hendrix..

A couple things: There are two many awesome guitarists along the way to say a single best. I am liking some of the gentlemen wandigo mentioned. Gotta love Hendrix, and Iommi makes me a happy man. Also can\’t leave out Ted Nugent though–the man wails hard. KeiicHi plays amazingly as well. I love this shit.

After watching the G3 concert on dvd. I would have to say Steve Vai is the best guitarist.
David Gilmour is MY favorite though.

how do you do the coins sound? it is with harmonics? also, did anyone ever find out how he made the warp sound?

The warp sound is either 3 ways. Playing some muted string high up on the fretboard. Doing just some notes. Or sweeping past the last fret. Makes aw wierd \’herp\’ noise

I can play this song too. It\’s not very hard… I transposed it down an octave to make it easier on an acoustic guitar.

what do you mean what can get you harmonics? A harmonic is like this, rest your finger on the 5\’th fret, but dont push down on the string. When you pick that string and pull your finger slightly off it plays a note even though you werent holding the string down. Its easiest to do on frets 4,5,7,9,12. I suggest you do a google search on \”how to guitar harmonics\”

And i dont know of any free tabbers.

No, only play the notes shown. You have to mute the others by lightly resting your hand on them and only pushing down on the ones shown. Usually in guitar tab if you were to strum all strings it would have “0″’s instead of just “-” ’s like

ok, you guys gotta read previous posts.
* = ignore, it just stops the string from ringing
x = a pick scracth thing, where you arent holding down any strings, but strum it anyway(with fingers resting on it)

To play the coin sound : Have distortion on, keep switch on pickup furthest from neck (nearest to bridge).

Place your finger lightly on the 5th fret area on the B string. You DONT push it down all the way. Then you have to pick it and pull your finger off the string at the same time, it makes a light “harmonic” noise. You do this with the E string right after to make it sound like the coin. Search HARMONICS GUITAR on Google to learn more.

this is ok at best, i can play this twice as fast and im just 16 It is simgle without looking and without any single mistake…trust me, it isnt as impressive as you think…get real people

it’s not about the tempo you play at. What’s really impressive is him actually figuring out the whole song by ear onto the guitar, having the creativity to use harmonics as coin noises, and to figure out the mushroom noises and crap. That’s what really impressive. No one really cares how fast someone plays it.

KeiicHi that is some great skill there. Even if mere 16 year olds can play that song twice as fast or with their eyes closed, the real props go to you who can hear the theme and transcribe it to guitar notes. Although it does seem your rythym is off around the first few riffs by miliseconds, theres no doubt with your skill that this tape isnt your peak performance. There is also a part in the end after sliding down the flagpole that sounds like a mess up. It might not be, its been a long time since I’ve played Mario and I can’t help but forget if that little number is actually there. Bye! Great work!

I think here the problem with the tablature is inconsistency; there’s some real accurate stuff, but only here and there.
With the help of some tab on this page/the track itself, I have worked out a version to my liking of keiichis mario peice and touched up all the chords to sound more accurate/easier to play. It also has the effects that seem to be in such high demand… yeah. they are cool. I have an upcoming tab site to put it on, but its not online yet so….

Well hes using a pedal… im not to sure which one, but if u fiddle with your amp a bit you can get a nice sound outta itlike i havce 3 gain, half treble, and middle maxed, along with my humbuckle pickup =-D

this guy plays that song great. can’t deny that. but he really plays few parts wrong. and if you want to sound like he does, play the bass parts and melody + harmony with a little distortion. the sound comes from your fingers, remember that.

the other chrstophers’ tab is *wrong* if you want an incomplete yet perfect composition of keiichi’s version then go to www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/m/misc_computer_games/super_mario_brothers_-_overworld_tab.htm
though christophers version is good it is not correct well correct as oppesed to keiichi’s version thank you.

If you want the version of KeiicHi, go to powertab, use the search fontion and it’s titled “Super Mario Bros. - Medley”. Thanks to the person who tabbed it, I think it’s KeiicHi himself but I’m not sure.
BTW, anyone knows if he uses an effect or they are just produced by harmonics and sweep picking,…

Ok “transcribed by Jamie Williams” so, many thanks to him. I saw in the tab that 8va thing during the pipes sections, I think it’s done with a whammy but I’m not sure. Anyone has the answer?!?!?! + there is something missing in this tab in the underworld theme right before the last part starting with 654… If someone has it please post it, maybe it’s in this thread but I’m too lazy to read everything

keiichi you rule!! thats incredible… i’ve never seen super mario in chords.. i’ve allways played it in single notes… and not any sound fx nor the whole thing, you should try doing the underwater parts.. i’m going to try to tab it out of the video… i’ll put it here if i manage to do it…

how do you make that tube sound?

i can play this whoel thing, but i play the harmonics on the 5 fret of the g and bstrings ( 3 strokes on the g harmonic and one on the b. and also the tube noise that is sweept is totally the right tab

the coin sound effects sound right when doing harmonics on the 7th fret, though in the video it looks like he does them at 4 or 5. the arpeggios weren’t too bad, he probably just stumbled trying to remember which note to play, technique wise they were very cleanly executed. If he recorded it a few times, he could have probably gotten a version where he doesn’t stumble. I know it can be hard to play something while recording, it always seems to jinx me.

oh and btw, does anyone know what kind of guitar he’s playing? to me it looks like an early Charvel superstrat, but i can’t make out any logo on the headstock. These kinds of guitars, as well as these kinds of players are reminiscent of a day when rock guitarists didn’t suck donkey balls. This guy has some cool hair too.

well this entry is old

started a version of this the other day a few days ago 9not this specific one) and now I’m completely hooked. i’m obsessed. To get the the coin effects there are two ways:
a, either turn up your guitar fuzz/distortion and play at the 5th fret harmonic on the B and E
b, for a better sound, if you have a jackson or ibanez sort guitar, hit an open E and hammer at the 24. its awkward but its better than turning your distortion up because you start to lose detail.
