十八般武藝 - Shi2 Ba1 Ban1 Wu3 Yi4 - Eighteen Kind Martial Art — 18 Legendary Weapons of China
I just can’t believe that there isn’t a site that lists the 18 legendary weapons used in this movie! How can this be! First no Katamari Damacy lyrics, and now this. Luckily, the names of each of the weapons flashes up on the screen as they are used…

y’know, I haven’t watched my old bootlegs in a while, but I’m nearly certain that celestial added the little popups with the names of the weapons (actually, I think they look super computer graphicy too, which would support this). On the one hand I think it’s kind of nice, it also kind of sucks that they would do this. What did you guys think? good? After thinking about it a bit, I’d suggest that you not watch that Cheng Pei Pei movie I lent you. There is a tribe of amazon kung fu women, but mostly I think that one isn’t worth it.
It looks like they also added some stuff to Brave Archer 2. I’ve never seen this one before, but there is 1 blatant thing added, and a few questionable things. The blatant bit, is towards the end Kuo Tsing is staring at the stars, and they occasionally switch to a picture of the stars moving around which is very obviously computer generated. So they must have added that (and possibly removed, or covered whatever was there originally), that sucks. There is also some bits of glowing style special effects, that are in a lot of later 80’s SB movies, but that I don’t think they were really doing in 1978, so I wonder if those were added also.

I am absolutely against these kinds of alterations. The pop up weapon names do look awfully modern. They definitely made changes to the sound on Legendary Weapons, they seemed to have changed the music in some scenes, and added lots of really lame surround effects. In some scenes they decided that the “original” whooshing and bashing sounds of the weapons weren’t good enough and they replaced them with really low quality, very out of place sounding new sound effects. Whoever’s idea this was should be stabbed, preferably in the face. They did such a nice job restoring the video (although from what you said it sounds like they’re starting to get “creative” with that too) that it’s really a shame that they’ve butchered the audio.
By the way, I’m sure you know this already, but telling us NOT to watch that movie only ensures that we watch it, as soon as possible.
