Dark Tower!

Very authentic flash version of Dark Tower! About the only thing it’s missing is the sound of the wheels inside the tower turning.

Posting this reminded me or the urban legend surrounding this game: Some random guy invented it, and sent the idea along with artwork and schematics to Milton Bradley who said “Thanks, but no thanks”. A while later the guy was horrified to find that MB had released his exact game! Various versions of this legend have the guy suing MB and either winning or losing. A few searches reveal that it really did happen! The original game was called “Triumph” and the two inventors, who had demonstrated it to MB, did sue MB for copying their idea (although it’s not clear how similar Dark Tower was to Triumph from the article) and won $737,058.10.

  2. Let me tell you about Dark Tower. I got Dark Tower one year for Christmas when I was a little kid, and it was the best present I ever got. I can’t remember a better christmas than the “Dark Tower” christmas. Shawn and I used to play Dark Tower for like DAYS at a time. At night, when the lights were out and everyone was asleep, I would sit in bed with my sheets over my head and play, dutifully listening to the whirring of the motors and watching the flashing lights.. that sound is like the best sound ever..ahh the good old days… I was like super scared of the brigands.

Advertisers need to be smarter about how they try to sell me products.
If they just had a dark tower on tv that whirred constantly, and their product popped up after a few seconds of whirring in a lit up little box, get out of my way.. I’m going to the store, and I’m going to BUY IT. Who cares what it is. Advertisers aren’t that smart though. Fortunately.

  4. I was first introduced to Dark Tower at an aunt and uncle’s place. They were rich because they had won the lottery and were able to afford many luxuries: cable TV, swimming pool … and Dark Tower.

  6. I remember a burning NEED to play dark tower my entire childhood. The commercials for it were SO GOOD! Easily lending themselves to fabulous day dreams of how freaking awesome that game must be. Our parents of course hated us, and wanted us to play with rocks and mouse traps. Then this one time we went some stupid place and for whatever stupid reason the stupid people there had it. and I was all “BUHHH!”. But just like everything else in life, it couldn’t live up to expectations. Even the disappointment did not quite live up to what I imagined. No tears, no vommit, I wasn’t blinded, I could still walk, nothing good, just boring straight out disappointment. I’m itching to play it again now though, figuring my low expectations will launch it into the “best game ever” realm.
