is what you do to make tea. In this house, and in Taiwan, you can also do it to noodles:

泡麵 – Pao4 Mian4 – Steeped Noodles — Instant Noodles

And according to 中文.com, in China they’re apparently called 快餐麵 – Kuai4 Can1 Mian4 – Fast Meal Noodles. And an alternative term, used everywhere, is 速食麵 – Su4 Shi2 Mian4 – Fast Food Noodles. Why not 速餐麵 or 快食麵, I wonder?

  2. 方便面 fang bian mian is what I hear people most commonly refer to ‘instant noodles’, meaning ‘convenient noodles’
