Why, why, why! I wonder how this strange behavior of dressing \”bizzarely\” started. Maybe some therapeutic measure for their academic pressure? Strange, strange.

The thing with these kids, they’re imitating popular Japanese Rock stars. It’s called cosplay~ For example, the top two are both imitating a visual kei-era Kyo, the male vocalist of the popular band Dir en grey. The two men on the bottom right, I’m not quite sure, but the girl on the bottom right is cosplaying Mana, the ex guitarist of the influential Malice Mizer, now the leader of Moi dix Mois. The reason why they are called Harajuku kids is because Harajuku, along with Shibuya are the trendy, fashion centers of Japan. It’s a sort of lifestyle/hobby, and to them it’s just plain fun. But remember, the whole thing behind is their style is the imitation of popular artists, which most of the time tends to be visual kei (visual style).
