donotcall.gov

donotcall.gov, the national Do Not Call registry, (cool URL, nice job,) is online, but currently seems swamped with traffic.

It let me click the “Register” button…

“Connection refused”… retrying…

Entered my number…. Submit…. AAhhhh! Stil can’t get through! Anyway. It’ll probably be up by later today. Don’t forget to register!

  2. Note: \”You may still receive calls from political organizations\” — we make the laws, so we make sure they don\’t apply to us.

  4. Great, so I can look forward to more of those creepy answering machine messages from George Bush. Did you get one during the last election?

\”Hello. This is George W. Bush. Not only do I control the country, but I also control your answering machine. You\’re probably wondering how I knew you wouldn\’t be home. Let\’s just keep that between me and the DHS. Now, about the election…\”

And charities, surveys, and insurance companies (?) are still allowed to call.

  10. That\’s so lame. Most of the calls we get are for idiot surveys. There is one noteable exception; this crazy company that sells prepackaged food that they deliver to your house for people that are too lazy to cook or go out to eat. I\’ve never met telemarketers with their voracity. I want everyone to stop calling me. Watch the movie \”Prime Gig\” with Vince Vaughn.. it\’ll make you hate both telemarketers AND the rich.

  12. Me too. I used a spamgourmet.com address to register.

(spamgourmet.com provides free, no hassle, disposable email addresses that forward to your real address a limited number of times, then stop working. Perfect for registration forms.)
