3rd Alabama Infantry Division - Captain Zilog - Deegez Sports - It’s the Cat’s Ass - Kimberly Thompson
I used to work at Outpost.com. You probably don’t know what that is, but you might remember their famous gerbil shooting commercial. Cyberian Outpost followed the typical .com e-tailer story arc: startup, hard work, lots of fun, roadshow, IPO, rolling in money, trying to be the “first-mover”, building a new building, expensive advertising, stock options, selling stuff at a loss, increasing sales at the expense of everything, falling stock price, burnout, bankers getting nervous, delisting, layoffs, (near-) bankruptcy, the founder calling it quits, and finally, selling out and sending the letter to all the stockholders saying “we’re really sorry”. They still exist now as a subsidiary of Fry’s.
I went out tonight with some old Outpost cow-orkers, and had a great time catching up and finding out the current state of things over there. I was slightly saddened to find out that my “MUNGER” no longer runs, but glad to hear that BroadVision (which sucks) is really truly dead.
So the list of sites above are all run by current or former Outposters. I’m trying to collect them all, like Pokemon. There’s a few more I know exist but can’t remember the URL to… Didn’t Dr. Jeff have a site, happy happy fun fun or something? I remember it was really funny. Also I’ve heard that Darryl Peck (the founder) has a new site, selling used cars (really!). But I can’t find it.
The coffee shop in Kent also has a site now, but that doesn’t count.

bigbear
darryl\’s website is http://www.cammotors.com/ , he started this used car company sometime back.
steve
Thanks bigbear! By the way, the \’\”trust-e\” link at the bottom of the shopping cart is broken.
susan
I think Dr. Jeff had something like yumyum in the title.
susan
Hey BigBear don\’t forget the /Strong tag in the You\’ve Got Mail PoD
steve
Here\’s another one:
http://www.tricision.com/
susan
could it be crazyyumyum?
steve
If it was, it\’s gone now.
Another one!

Dogzilla
Weird. My wife went to Kent School, and a classmate of hers worked at Outpost for a while - Mike Tesoro. Don\’t know much beyond that.
steve
Hey, that is weird!
Here\’s another thing I found, not an Outposter\’s site, but mention of an Outposter at microsoft.com:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/casestudies/CaseStudy.asp?CaseStudyID=11077
steve
Another one! They just keep rolling in:

Why don\’t I remember who Jessica Moodie is? Did she get married and change her name or something? Or am I just stupid?
susan
name sounds familiar, but I can\’t picture her face.
susan
Remember this????
http://www.littlejunebug.com/wackamole/mole.html
steve
Yeah, I remember that one, I also remember a dart game starring a certain CFO…
Semifatboy
Jessica was pretty much to herself in the Design department. Her position didn\’t have any real contact with other departments. You guys would have really liked her.
Mert
Howdy everyone! what a great thread! i actually just found it looking through the log files of my site.
name Dr. Jeff
comment
Oofah! hey, what fun to read all these comments and visit all the sites of former
co-workers! — As if anyone cares, I\’m a coprorate writer at Cendant Mobility in Danbury. I go to the mall constantly on lunch and eat Big Macs and get free samples of burnt beef cubes from the Cajun Kitchen or whatever the hell they call it. Yeah, my site was crazyyumyum. Susan was right. I\’m thinking of starting it back up. The Fry Brothers suck prostate.
steve
Hey Dan! That QGoo thing is great! I know what I\’m doing today.
steve
Ah, Crazy Yum Yum it was. Start it back up, you must have some good ideas saved up by now, especially after all this time writing about global mobility management and workforce development solutions serving the corporate, military, government and affinity markets.
susan
vick sucks prostate too
http://www.vickco.com/
Dr. Jeff
Yeah, well said, Susan. Vick is a skanky-assed buy-otch. she looks like Debbie Harry after a skiing accident.
susan
hahahha great visual
susan
Oh Steve keep forgetting to mention that Infantry is spelled wrong. ;)
Dr. Jeff
Steve, you sound like you\’ve worked here at Cendant or something. you use the term \”global mobility management\” like it\’s your bag or something.
steve
Susan - fixed the typo. your Q&A skills live on.
Dr. Jeff - I copied the text verbatim from the site! I actually have no idea what \”global mobility management\” or \”affinity markets\” are.
susan
Q&A? Questions and Answers? Just gave me a flashback to Stephanie Pantano.
CaptnZilog
Keeping track on NetOps, Todd just took a
job at ticketmaster.com, after moving to
MA and then getting laid off from the job
up there. Used to stop up and visit, but
now they\’ve moved to the L.A. area.
Josh is working for Veritas, and Kate is
working for Aetna… Josh *had* a website
www.clusteredworld.com, but its not up now.
Kevin is working for Web.com.
Darryl
Yep, I’m selling used cars. Hey, it’s a job and you know how much I love cars. Hi to all…
Scott C
Are you the tech support guy for Outpost. Dark hair, young, tall and, well, slightly puggy? If so, cool.
steve
No, that was a different Steve, I forgot his last name. I was a web developer there. I worked for James while he was still there, in the same team as Vivek and Dhruv, with Toni and Nigel.
steve
Steven Aiello! That\’s the other Steve you were thinking about. I just remembered.
Robert
Yo - Peter Hufnagel and Kevin Barnard recently joined the team at GE. Kevin left web.com and had intended to head south to live the golfing life at Augusta, so I simply had to hire him…
steve
With CaptnZilog and \”FNG\” both at your disposal, I don\’t see how there\’s any way you can be stopped.
But there\’s one former NetOps guy you can\’t have.. Ken Nawyn. He works where I do now!
Robert
For the record, Kevin used to be FNG, but now that Zilog has joined us Kevin has once more aquired SFNG status (S for senior). Say hi to Ken and swing by Ole Mole some time if you want to get together for lunch.
bigbear
am wondering who is Ken Nawyn, cant seem to rememeber. Must be before i joined.
steve
I\’m pretty sure Ken was there while you were there. I\’m not sure if he was in NetOps or \”regular\” ops. I think I remember him working really hard moving machines and stuff over to the nice new clean data center in the basement of the new building.
I go to Ole Mole just about ALL THE TIME, and Leyla\’s right next door too. If I\’m not there, I\’m at Super Duper Weenie. Then there\’s this other place we\’ve been going to lately called Home on the Range which is absolutely excellent. I\’ll go any time!
But now the multitudes of internet stalkers know just where to find me.
Derek
Hello,
I found the Outpost.com commercial link on your page but it won\’t load. Is this the whole thing and can you let me know how to download it?
Thanks for your help
Regards
Derek
FTM2@AOL.COM
steve
Try Google. There\’s plenty of copies of it floating around. Here\’s another one.
For extra points, also find the marching band one and the super-rare little kid head tattoo one.
steve
OK, fine. Here\’s a page with links to all three.
Joe
Glad to see all you great ex-outposters. I sadly miss all the great times in Kent and in Bethel but on to bigger and better things. Steve keep up the great work
Bruce Schellinkhout
Think about Outpost a lot, the folks and the excitment. I\’d do it again!
steve
I\’m still wearing my Cyberian Outpost jean jacket! One day it\’ll be a collector\’s item.
Joe
I still have mine too- and of course all the frisbee, hats, nerf footballs, and a file full of stock optios
Vinnie
Hi folks–great to see Outposters still out there. Like Joe M., I miss the fun. Still wear the hats, t-shirts, & stuff!
Jessica Moodie
Hello People!
Deege, Jeff, “BigBear”, Derek! How are you all? I’ve been MIA for years - I know. Thanks for the nice words Deege! You tha MAN!
Email me thru littlejunebug.com I’d love to hear what you’re all up to! Best of luck to you!
Will Pemble
Steve,
So cool to find this. You may remember me. I was only at outpost a short time, working as a project manager. I now serve as CEO of Web.com, a hosting and domain company with offices in…
Bethel, CT!
All the best, Steve. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to be helpful.
Regards,
Will
steve
Yes! I do remember! Wow, CEO, eh? Not bad!
CaptnZilog
Heh, just a furthur update, our team at GE is now Robert at the helm, Kevin, Sean, Me (Pete), and Steve Aiello.
We were trying to get Jason in, but the wheels of GE move slowly if at all (god I wonder how Fortune-10 companies operate at all).
Josh is going to Veritas (again), Kate is at Aetna.
Last I knew Todd is at TicketMaster in L.A.
Had a good time at the last little outpost get-together. Good to see some old faces :-)
